Here at Simply Smiles we love treating children and recommend parents and caregivers bring their child to visit our dental office by age 1 or after the first tooth has pushed through the gums. These early dental visits help children become accustomed to visiting a dental office so they are more likely to grow up without fears and phobias and we can diagnose any dental problems early on, helping to ensure your child enjoys healthy, strong teeth well into adulthood.
Early dental visits can help avoid the need for more complicated procedures later on as for example any orthodontic problems can be identified at a much earlier age and at a stage where an orthodontist can take advantage of a child’s growth and development to more easily correct any issues. If your child has any medical conditions that may increase the risk of developing dental problems then it’s a good idea to make sure they come to see us regularly.
You will also find that we can give you lots of information on the best way to care for your child’s teeth which include the correct brushing and flossing techniques as well as more general dietary advice. A healthy diet is extremely important for healthy teeth and dental problems can often arise due to the high levels of hidden sugars in foods.
What to Expect during Your Child’s First Visit
Your child’s initial visit will consist of a thorough consultation where Dr. Kira Gekht will gently examine their mouth. If necessary we can take dental x-rays and we will need to know a bit about their medical history. We can also talk to you about oral hygiene and the best way to care for their teeth at home. You will find our dental team are extremely gentle when treating children, particularly when they may be nervous or anxious and we go out of our way to help them relax during their visit. If your child requires treatment, we take every possible precaution to make sure they are kept as comfortable as possible.
Emergency Dental Appointments for Children
Active children can often injure teeth which is why we offer emergency appointments and out of hours treatment for children who have had a dental injury. Often it’s important to seek treatment as soon as possible and we can offer you advice over the phone on how best to deal with the problem until you can get to our dental office.
If you’d like to book an appointment for your child please call us at 941-921-4654 and of course we are always more than willing to answer any questions you might have about our children’s dental services.
