Inlays and Onlays
Many patients fear that if a large portion of a tooth is damaged or decayed, the tooth will have to be completely replaced. Now, with the use of inlays and onlays, even badly cracked or injured teeth can be restored.
This restorative technique makes teeth whole again by applying a pre-fabricated composite material to the affected area. The composite material, made from plastic and zirconia/silica, repairs the tooth and restores it to its original strength and appearance.
An inlay is used when the impaired area occurs in the inner portion of the tooth, and an onlay is applied to outer corners or biting surfaces of the tooth.
How are Inlays and Onlays Applied?
As with all composite restorations, the first step is to take a mold of your teeth. This will be used by our dental labs to create an inlay or onlay that will fit perfectly on your tooth and match the surrounding teeth as well.
After the restoration has been fabricated, Dr. Gekht will simply bond it into the prepared opening. The composite material may actually strengthen the tooth and lasts up to thirty years.
