Sedation Dentistry in Sarasota, FL
Oral Conscious Sedation
Here at Simply Smiles we know that many people become anxious before their dental visit and are scared of the dental procedures themselves. To make your visit to our dental office more relaxing and less stressful we’re pleased to be able to offer oral conscious sedation. Taken in the form of a pill approximately one hour before your scheduled appointment, there sedative is a simple and safe method of reducing dental fear and anxiety. You’ll be sedated just enough to feel pleasantly relaxed yet you’ll still be conscious and able to respond to the dentist throughout your treatment.
How Oral Conscious Sedation Works
No face masks, no needles, just a simple pill. As its name suggests, oral conscious sedation gets its name because it is taken by mouth, which makes it a popular and convenient choice for many of our patients.
You’ll be prescribed a pill to take an hour before your scheduled appointment and since the drug takes effect quickly, you’ll need to have a friend or relative escort you to and from your appointment since you won’t be able to drive in a sedated condition.
During the treatment our experienced dental staff will remain with you to monitor your vital signs. You’ll be deeply relaxed almost like in a light sleep, but fully conscious and able to comply with the dentist. Since the sedative doesn’t contain any pain relieving agents you’ll also be given a local anaesthetic, but you’ll be so relaxed you won’t have any recollection of there happening. Once the treatment is complete you’ll continue to feel the effects of the sedative for several hours and will be dependent on others until the effects have completely worn off. Once you’re feeling back to normal, you’ll have very little, if any recollection of the dental treatment, and some patients don’t even remember visiting the dentist in the first place.
