Oral Conscious Sedation
Here at Simply Smiles, we know many people become very anxious or nervous before having dental treatment which is why we are pleased to be able to offer oral conscious sedation. This will help ensure your visit is more relaxed and less stressful. Oral conscious sedation is a very safe way to help reduce dental fear and anxiety and although you will feel pleasantly relaxed, you will remain conscious during treatment and able to communicate with us.
How Does Oral Conscious Sedation Work?
We find oral conscious sedation to be an extremely popular option as there is no need for any needles or any face masks. Instead we will prescribe a sedative which is taken in the form of a pill, approximately an hour before your appointment. You will need a friend or relative to take you to and from your appointment as you will soon begin to feel very relaxed and unable to safely drive.
During treatment our experienced and caring dental team will ensure you are closely monitored and we will keep you safe at all times. By this stage you will be feeling deeply relaxed and possibly quite sleepy, but you will still be able to communicate with Dr. Gekht. We will need to give you a local anesthetic as the sedative doesn’t contain pain relief, but you should feel so relaxed that you will not remember very much about treatment. Some people are unable to remember they have visited us. The effects of the sedative will remain several hours after treatment is completed and we will keep you with us until we are sure you are okay to go home.
