Frequent hygiene visits
are vital to maintaining optimum health for both mouth and body.
Keeping up with your hygiene visits can help prevent something as minor as bad breath, to something as life-threatening as heart disease. No matter how good your home care is, no amount of regular brushing or flossing will completely kill the microbial bacteria caused by plaque. Luckily our hygienists equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and the know how to help keep your teeth and gums in great shape.
Judgment-free education of patients is one of our core beliefs. Instead of finger-wagging or telling you it’s because-I-said-so, we take time to explain what treatment we think you need and why it’s important that you get it done. We want everyone who walks through our door to walk out knowing a little more. Listen: we know flossing is a pain in the butt. We know sometimes you lay down before you mean to, and getting back up and making that trip to the bathroom to brush your teeth just seems like a bridge too far. And we get it, sometimes you wonder: hey, why the heck do I need to keep this hygiene appointment anyway? It really is easier to get yourself to do these things when you know exactly why you’re doing them (and how doing them will wind up saving you money).
High radiation imaging is a worry of the past!
No, really! X-Rays used to be full of radiation and those worries still linger in the back of most patients’ minds. Your concerns are our concerns. That is why we’ve invested in the KaVo Nomad, an x-ray machine with low enough radiation that we don’t jump behind closed doors when we’re taking x-rays. We stay right in the room with you. Did you know that a full mouth series of dental x-rays (which we like take for our new patients, and our existing patients every five years or so) will expose you to less radiation than a commercial airline flight? How about that a single x-ray (like we would take of a problem tooth during an emergency) exposes you to less than 1.6% of the amount of daily background radiation you get just from living on planet Earth?
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss, and can raise your risk of heart attack and stroke. Measuring your gum pockets accurately is one of many metrics that help us determine what kind of cleaning you need and whether or not you have gum disease. Routinely checking the depth of your gum pockets also helps you understand how well your home care and hygiene appointments are going. We can use these numbers to see which parts of your mouth need more care and attention at home and in the office. Gum depth measurements also give us real data we can use to help stop gum disease from worsening, or keep healthy gums, well, healthy!
Anyone have a mint?
Mask requirements are being lifted, and that smelly secret can’t be kept much longer… Don’t worry! Our hygienists know that sometimes brushing doesn’t do the trick. But during your hygiene appointment, they can tell you what will knock that bad breath back where it came from and keep it there for good!
