Discover Our Services at Simply Smiles
Hey guys, my name is Carmen. I am the office manager here at Simply Smiles. We receive numerous questions daily about the dental services we offer to our patients. Today, I'm here to answer some of those questions for you.
Why is dental health so important?
Dental health is important because your mouth is the gateway to your body. Most people think, "Hey, as long as I'm brushing once a day, I'm doing great." However, we need to be brushing and flossing at least twice a day. The lack of good oral hygiene can lead to other systemic problems. It's been linked to types of cancer, Alzheimer's, and of course, toothaches, and potentially even losing your teeth.
What is a healthy dental routine?
A healthy dental routine consists of brushing and flossing at least twice a day. We want to ensure that when we get up in the morning and before we greet the day, we have clean teeth and fresh breath. Before we go to bed at night, we should be washing away all the plaque and bacteria from the day. Flossing is important. I know a lot of people hate that and feel like it's tedious.
There are a couple of different ways to get in between your teeth and remove all the plaque and bacteria. There's the traditional string floss method, but there have also been advancements like water picks that use a blast of water to clean between the teeth. Believe it or not, the majority of cavities actually start to form between the teeth because we don't floss as often as we should.
To ensure you're staying healthy and getting everything as clean as possible, make sure you're brushing and flossing.
What are the most common dental problems?
The most common dental problems we see in our practice include patients coming to us with toothaches for various reasons. There could be an infection at the tip of the root, a cavity, bone loss, bleeding gums, or bad breath. These are just a handful of the problems we encounter on a daily basis.
What dental services can Simply Smiles provide?
At Simply Smiles, we offer a whole mouth health approach. We take care of your regular routine cleanings and any fillings you may need. If you require an extraction, the majority can be performed here at our practice.
We also offer orthodontics if you're looking to straighten your smile. Something we love in our office, which Dr. Gekht is a master at, is full mouth makeovers.
As a side note, we offer free consultations for full mouth makeovers. Come in sometime and let Dr. Gekht show you how she can change your life.
How long does a full dental exam take?
A full dental examination can vary depending on the needs of the patient. If it's someone with a regular healthy mouth that does not have advanced gum disease or a lot of decay, we can usually complete their examination in roughly 30 minutes.
At Simply Smiles, we don't rush the process. Our doctors, hygienists, and team of professionals are here to stay with you as long as necessary to ensure we address any issues thoroughly.
How often should the average person go to the dentist?
The average person should visit the dentist at least twice a year. This is recommended if you are maintaining a healthy cleaning routine. We have patients who have needed a deep cleaning in the past and are on a shorter recall list, meaning they may come every 3 to 4 months instead of the traditional six months. The type of cleaning you need will determine the frequency of your visits to the dental office.
What is routine dental cleaning?
A routine dental cleaning is often referred to as a basic cleaning or a prophy. This means the patient has healthy pink gums with no deep pocketing around the teeth. When you're in the chair, you may feel less probing as we check the depth of the pockets, which also assesses the bone and gum tissue health of your teeth. As long as these numbers are in a healthy range, typically between one and three, it indicates a healthy dental cleaning for you.
What does dental insurance cover?
Dental insurance is always a hot topic. Coverage depends on your plan. Some plans cover 100% of your healthy mouth cleaning, x-rays, and exams, and may cover between 80% to 50% of additional dental services. The type of coverage you receive from your dental insurance is determined by the plan you have personally or the plan chosen by your employer.
We have an excellent dental insurance coordinator in our office to help you navigate the process. Whether we're in or out of network with your plan, we work diligently to maximize your dental insurance benefits for you.
